Layout of Your Home

There are small steps you can take in the formatting and layout of your home that can assist your loved one living with dementia. The most important is the idea of simplicity. Take a look at some of the ideas below:

Make a space appropriate to its function. It is important to avoid the 'hotel look' as this only emphasises the message that a person doesn't belong. Personalise you house esprcially your bedroom, by including pictures, ornaments or other momentos from a persons life and history. This will help to prompt them and solidify they are in their own home.

Try to reduce clutter in your home and how busy your decor is as this can cause over stimulation. This makes it hard for a person living with dementia as there is too much visual stimulation, and causes confusion.
